In over forty years of trial practice, Tom has tried cases involving defamation, intentional torts of assault and battery and malicious prosecution, false arrest, construction accidents, automobile accidents, premises accidents, products liability, municipal law liability, school district liability, discrimination cases based on race, disability, sexual orientation, gender and age and police excessive force in the courts of the Metropolitan New York area, Long Island region, both State and Federal.  He also has experience in criminal law, successfully defending persons accused of manslaughter and burglary.  He has appeared in the Appellate Division, Second Department, the New York State Court of Appeals and the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.  He has handled cases from a pre-complaint investigation through pre-complaint hearings, pleadings, discovery, motions, trials and appeals.

He has handled many arbitrations as an attorney and as a Federal Arbitrator in the Eastern District of New York.  In the past decade, he has represented attorneys in disciplinary matters before the Appellate Division.  He has delivered numerous lectures to the bar on issues of legal ethics and trial techniques.
